Match preview

There is never a good time to play the current Bayern Munich crop but given the Bavarian side's slight dip in form of late, Lazio will fancy their chances of causing an upset when the sides meet in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Bayern Munich were irrepressible on their way to the Champions League title last season and won five of their six group games in the competition this campaign.

But Hansi Flick's men seem to be nursing something of a Fifa Club World Cup hangover, drawing 3-3 with Arminia Bielefeld and losing 2-1 to in-form Eintracht Frankfurt since their win over Mexicans Tigres.

They are not helped by Corentin Tolisso joining Thomas Muller, Benjamin Pavard, Serge Gnabry, Douglas Costa, Tanguy Nianzou, Leon Goretzka, and Javi Martinez on their long list of absentees and punters are advised to steer clear of backing a Munich win.

Lazio could be a great bet at 4-1 to win the game but the better punting strategy could be to back their talismanic forward Ciro Immobile to get on the scoresheet.

He faces competition from Robert Lewandowski in that market but at his Stadio Olimpico home, Immobile makes more each-way appeal at 5-1.

The 31-year-old has fired 14 goals in 21 league fixtures this season and also scored five goals in the Champions League group stage earlier this season.

Lazio's chances of springing a surprise in Rome will rest heavily on Immobile's shoulders and he can deliver.

Key stat

Lazio have scored in each of their last 27 games in all competitions, last drawing a blank against Sampdoria in mid-October.
