Men's semi-final previews

Matteo Berrettini v Rafael Nadal

Rafael Nadal has won only one Australian Open title in his career but is only two victories away from doubling that tally and his semi-final encounter with Matteo Berrettini is sure to be a match to savour.

Only one place separates the pair in the seedings - 2021 Wimbledon champion Berrettini is seventh with 20-time Grand Slam winner Nadal sixth - and they were both pushed to their limits in the quarter-finals.

Berrettini won 6-4 6-4 3-6 3-6 6-2 against Gael Monfils, while Nadal was taken to five sets by Denis Shapovalov.

And while veteran Nadal missed much of 2021, he started this year with victory in the Melbourne Summer Set earlier this month.

The match winner is therefore tricky to determine and punters might instead want to opt for over 38.5 games with bet365.

Berrettini has seen that games total surpassed in three of his five matches at the first Grand Slam of the season and this could be another immense battle.

Stefanos Tsitsipas v Daniil Medvedev

In a memorable epic with Canadian starlet Felix Auger-Aliassime, men's outright favourite Daniil Medvedev became the first player at this year's Australian Open to fight back from two sets down to win.

The tournament second seed came through 6-7 3-6 7-6 7-5 6-4 in the end, having also been pushed by Maxime Cressy in the previous round.

And although the Russian will have undoubtedly been hit hard by fatigue, the manner of his win over Auger-Aliassime should have done his mental strength the world of good and that looked to be a vulnerable aspect of his game against Cressy as he hit boiling point.

That match did not show Medvedev at his best and yet last year's US Open winner still managed to progress.

He booked his spot in the Australian Open final with a straight-sets defeat of Tsitsipas last year and although he is worth backing to emulate the win, it is unlikely to be as straightforward.

Greek talent Tsitsipas was unimpressive at both the ATP World Tour Finals and ATP Cup after his elbow surgery but has come back fighting in Melbourne with a fourth-round defeat of Taylor Fritz a particular highlight.

He will not go down without a fight and can pick up a set in defeat to Medvedev.
