Key betting news, going updates and non-runners
If you thought day one at the Punchestown festival was good then expect day two to be even better with the Coral Punchestown Gold Cup (5.30) headlining a superb day of racing in Britain and Ireland.
Sizing John’s win in last month’s Cheltenham Gold Cup kickstarted a golden period for jockey Robbie Power and owners Ann and Alan Potts, and they tasted Grade 1 glory yet again on Tuesday with Fox Norton in the Champion Chase.
The likes of Coneygree and Outlander will be looking to stop Sizing John, while Willie Mullins will be out to make more gains on Gordon Elliott in the trainers’ title race after cutting the deficit by nearly €150,000 on day one. Djakadam heads his strong team for day two at Punchestown.
The top action is not restricted to Ireland - where there are two other Grade 1s alongside the Gold Cup - with Epsom hosting an excellent fixture. The unbeaten Frankel colt Cracksman is out to earn a place in the Investec Derby with victory in the Investec Derby Trial (2.45).
