The big racing starts tomorrow and today's fare, quite honestly, struggles to compete. There is still a great depth of action and a few 0-90s scattered around, so it's far from a sleepy Tuesday.

Hamilton, Brighton and Kempton cover the afternoon action, with Yarmouth taking over on the Flat in the evening backed up by jumps meetings from Newton Abbot and Sligo.

There is also plenty of British interest in the early Group 3 at Deauville, the Prix Daphnis (12.10). Three of the five runners are British-trained: First Contact and Glorious Journey for Charlie Appleby, and Zyzzyva who has joined Roger Varian from Robyn Brisland.

What to read

Looking forward to York this week. Here are the favourites to side with, and to oppose.

And it is good news for punters, who are now guaranteed to get on (for a liability of £500) with BetVictor, the result of discussions with the Horseracing Bettors Forum.

The best of Racing Post Sport

This week's team in focus is Derby County, managed by ex-England international Frank Lampard.

We also have some advice on the big matches at Winston-Salem on the ATP Tour.

Final thought

When does a handicap cease to be a handicap? As it stands, the band of ratings in Saturday's Ebor will be 9lb, from 112 down to 103. Only two of the remaining 12 entrants in the Group 2 Lonsdale Cup on Friday (Stradivarius on 118 and Idaho on 116) would stretch that upwards.
