Leger Legends line-up: 70-year-old Duffield in bid to show others up

Veteran jockey George Duffield will partner Soldier Blue in the Leger Legends on Wednesday as he bids to snare the contest at the grand old age of 70, some 25 years on from winning the world's oldest Classic on User Friendly.

Duffield, former stable jockey to Sir Mark Prescott, is one of 14 former riders taking part in the highlight on the first day of the William Hill St Leger meeting at Doncaster.

Soldier Blue, a former Godolphin inmate now in the care of Brian Ellison, runs for the third time for his new trainer having finished third in a maiden at Pontefract last time.

Luke Harvey, the At The Races and ITV presenter, will team up with Jamie Osborne’s Haraz, Ian Mongan, whose wife Laura saddled Harbour Law to win last year’s St Leger, rides Character Onesie for Richard Fahey and recently retired jump jockey Brian Harding is partner Off Art for Tim Easterby.

In the Pepsi Max Scarborough Stakes, the other major contest on Wednesday's card, Clive Cox bids to add to his big-race haul with Go On Go On Go On and Razzmatazz two of the six runners declared.

Trainer Paul Midgley is set to run Final Venture and Desert Law, while Thesme and Encore d'Or complete the field.

St Leger latest

Saturday's William Hill St Leger is dominated by Aidan O'Brien, who is responsible for six of the 13 remaining entries including Irish Derby winner Capri.

Capri heads the market for the final Classic of the season at 7-2 alongside Gordon Stakes winner Crystal Ocean, while the likes of Raheen House, Defoe, winner of the Geoffrey Freer and Goodwood Cup winner Stradivarius also featuring.
