Pure joy for PJ McDonald as Cape's victory gives him perfect start to epic week
It promises to be an epic week for rider PJ McDonald and he made the perfect start when partnering the James Tate-trained Cape Victory to get off the mark in the 1m1f maiden auction event for three-year-olds.
Sent off a shade of odds-on, the son of Dawn Approach won in the style his price suggested as he scored readily by two lengths from his market rival Spirit Of Lund, helping erase memories of his previous defeat at Southwell as 1-3 favourite.
"He didn't like the surface there," said McDonald, who added that he is still a raw horse who was green and that the ground was fast enough for him.
