An emotional Richard Fahey was briefly left short of words after Perfect Power's electric Commonwealth Cup success, but after regaining his composure he was adamant there was more to come from his sprinting star.

"I can't get it out, it's fantastic," he said of his tenth Royal Ascot winner. "When you've got great belief in a horse and they don't let you down it's fantastic."

A second Royal Ascot winner of the week for the trainer after The Ridler's controversial success in Thursday's Norfolk Stakes, Perfect Power was returning to his best after a seventh-placed finish when connections tried to stretch his stamina to a mile in the 2,000 Guineas.

Although Fahey had to double check the number of Group 1 prizes his stable star had won in the heat of the moment, the tally definitely stands at three with the Commonwealth Cup triumph joining last season's wins in the Prix Morny and Middle Park Stakes.

The North Yorkshire trainer confidently predicted Perfect Power, who was cut to 4-1 (from 8) for the July Cup, would soon add to his tally.

He said: "When you're a small trainer from the north of England you need Group 1 horses. What's he won now, three? It'll be four soon, won't it? He's a special horse."

Perfect Power gave the trainer his first Group 1 since 2018 when striking in France last season and settled a few scores here. Fahey had saddled Sands Of Mali to finish second in the Commonwealth Cup in 2018, while Ventura Rebel was third two years later.

The three-year-old looks set to go for another top-level win in the Darley July Cup at Newmarket next month, a prize the trainer landed in 2012 with Mayson.

Christophe Soumillon has been on board for Perfect Power's three Group 1 victories and Fahey was quick to praise the jockey.

"He was out the back there and when you've got one fancied you always want to be up there near the front, but Christophe, he's just the man," the trainer said.
