'It was only a matter of time' - Jim Goldie ends April drought with 74-1 double
Jim Goldie sent only two runners east to Musselburgh on Friday, yet both returned winners thanks to a quickfire double for the Glasgow-based trainer.
Ayr Poet took the 1m1f handicap under Paul Hanagan, making amends for losing by a head three days earlier at Ayr. That success was followed up quickly by Primo’s Comet, scoring for the first time since July at odds of 14-1.
Goldie, who had endured 21 defeats in April before the double, said: “I hit the crossbar at Ayr, so it’s nice to get a couple of winners on the board, and with two of our stable stalwarts. Sometimes they just get a knock coming out of the stalls and it doesn’t go to plan, but everything went well.
“I was quite happy with our horses before today anyway; it’s been a difficult spring but it’s still quite early for us. If we’re getting near the winner’s enclosure and getting placed horses, it was only a matter of time before the winners came.”
Hanagan treble
Ayr Poet was the first of a trio of winners for Paul Hanagan, who rounded off his day by claiming the final two races for Richard Fahey.
Success with Kodiac Brown Bear was followed in the next by Yoshimi to give the ex-champion jockey his 14th winner of the season.
