Dream start for Cloudy over fences as Hughes bags four-timer

Cloudy Dream provided one of the most memorable performances of the spring when storming home for second in the Scottish Champion Hurdle at Ayr, and that potential was unleashed over fences on Thursday.

Trevor Hemmings' six-year-old, the highlight of a Brian Hughes four-timer and a Malcolm Jefferson treble, was facing just two rivals in the 2m1f beginners' chase, but they were only 11lb behind him on hurdling Racing Post Ratings and he produced a fine round of jumping to win in impressive fashion.

Jefferson said: "He schooled well, he's always been a good jumper, he's very athletic. For a Cloudings he has plenty of speed; a lot of them are stayers. He's a very exciting horse."
