A gasp from the spectators as Tilsit rolled down the hill pushing My Oberon into the rail told you that the hot topics of race-riding and interference were going to loom large over the Group 3 Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes.

On Thursday, jockey Robert Havlin had been successful in his appeal against a ten-day riding ban for careless riding at Yarmouth the week before and this time around Ryan Moore was the rider in the spotlight.

Such instances of interference are far from uncommon at Goodwood, and after a lengthy stewards’ inquiry Tilsit was cleared to keep the contest for Charlie Hills and Khalid Abdullah, with Moore picking up a five-day ban for careless riding in the process.
