Saturday: York

A potential star emerged at York in the shape of Bradsell, who destroyed his rivals to win by nine lengths in the 6f novice stakes.

The son of Tasleet, who was making his debut, was quoted at 8-1 with Coral for the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot following his breathtaking performance. He travelled with complete ease and needed only to pushed clear to win hard held.

"Two-year-olds don't win like that, it was very impressive," reflected winning trainer Archie Watson. "He'd done everything right at home and his work on the gallops had been very good so I was hopeful he could win but you never expect anything like that. He's gone through that race like a really good horse."

"I'd imagine he'd go for the Coventry. He's bred to be a quick horse and I see him as a nice long-term sprint horse."

Bradsell, sent off the 9-4 favourite, was winning just a month on from fetching £47,000 at the Goffs UK Breeze Up Sale.

Wayward Love

Ray Dawson was hit with an eight-day suspension for careless riding following his winning ride on Believe In Love in the Group 3 William Hill Bronte Cup Fillies' Stakes.

The five-year-old drifted sharply across the track in the closing stages and had to survive a stewards' inquiry.

Escobar back on song

Escobar broke a 24-race winless run dating back to the Balmoral Handicap in October 2019, when flying home to take the 7f handicap under Jason Watson.
