'She's a lot better on turf' - Do I Dream springs 100-1 shock for Ben Haslam

Do I Dream caused a huge upset to score at 100-1 in the mile handicap for trainer Ben Haslam.

The three-year-old had been well-beaten on all four starts to date, including on handicap debut last time, but took the change to turf in her stride to turn over the odds-on favourite Autumn Festival.

Haslam said: "Her form hasn’t been great leading up to this, but I think she’s a lot better on the turf. We were struggling on the all-weather with her, she just wasn’t settling.

"She’s bred to want a trip and we were running her over seven [furlongs], she was running herself into the ground. We are delighted, she was a big price – she probably deserved to be a big price – maybe not that big!"

While it may have come as a shock to most it was not as big for the breeders Elwick Stud, who gave some optimism to the Middleham trainer.

"The lads from Elwick Stud were here," he added. "They said 'listen, just write off Mondialiste [sire] on the all-weather,' before I went into the paddock and that they’re a different horse on the turf. I think that has a lot to do with it."

Rayong revitalised

Rayong was smart as a two-year-old and ended a 13-run losing streak with an impressive success in the feature 5f handicap.

Now a five-year-old, the Karl Burke-trained performer returned to the track he was previously victorious at in 2020 in fine style under Franny Norton to win by two lengths.
