Rossa Ryan: leading jockey takes easyJet flight to the course amid fuel crisis
Rossa Ryan took to the skies to avoid travel disruption caused by the fuel crisis and his efforts proved worthwhile as his only ride at Ayr was a winning one aboard Mr Alan in the mile maiden.
The jockey took no chances on missing the ride on the George Boughey-trained 11-10 favourite, travelling from Newmarket to Stansted airport to catch an easyJet flight to get to the Scottish track, and was duly rewarded as the son of Ulysses landed the spoils by two-and-a-quarter lengths.
'We've got fuel for 48 hours' – transport firm warns shortages could hit racing
Ryan, the retained rider for Amo Racing, said: "I was lucky to get a flight and it would have been a bit of a scare if I was going to drive all the way. He's a lovely model of a horse, just needed a bit of time. He seems like a horse that is going to progress really well.
"His work is good, still very workmanlike, and he's not the finished article yet – until he gets fired in the deep end, we won't know how good he will be."
Mr Alan's success gave Boughey his 30th two-year-old winner of the year.
Course specialist strikes
Redarna enjoyed a seventh success at Ayr in the feature 7f handicap as the Dianne Sayer-trained seven-year-old held off the fast-finishing Cold Stare by three quarters of a length.
Seventh heaven
Let Me Be, who has been a revelation for trainer Keith Dalgleish in 2021, continued his great season with a seventh victory of the campaign in the 1m7f handicap.
