Glory And Fortune powers to Welsh Champion Hurdle win for Tom Lacey

Rejuvenated Glory And Fortune ran out a comfortable winner of the Potter Group Welsh Champion Hurdle in the centenary year of the race.

The Tom Lacey-trained six-year-old made a big impression when winning Cheltenham's Listed New Year's Day bumper on debut in 2019, which was followed by a novice hurdle success at Huntingdon on his next start.

But it took him nine races, and almost two years, to strike again until victory at Plumpton last month. He certified that was no fluke at Ffos Las, looking far superior to his opposition in an easy four-length triumph and, in doing so, recorded a career best.

It continued a fine start to the year for Lacey, who also landed the Listed novice chase at Chepstow last week with Tea Clipper.

He said of the Stan Sheppard-ridden winner: "That was a really good performance. I think he's just starting to believe in himself after the second wind op.

"He lost his way a bit but he's grown back in confidence and we're over the moon that he has. It was always in there and it was just a case of getting him right."

Off the mark

The 2020 Betfair Hurdle hero Pic D'Orhy successfully restarted his chasing career with a comfortable win in the Norton's Coin Trophy, sponsored by Osteoplus Ltd.
