'Finally we've got it right' - Dante's View peaks at last to get off the mark
The missing jigsaw piece fell into place for Dante's View as he broke his maiden tag at the 21st attempt in the 3m2f handicap hurdle, providing trainer George Baker with a first win of the jumps season.
The five-year-old had yet to taste victory in 20 career starts prior to this, but finally he put his best foot forward with a six-and-a-half-length win under Tom Cannon, despite drifting towards the paddock chute in the home straight.
Baker said: "He's been a challenge and it's been trainer error most of the way! Finally we've got it right. Tom gave him an absolute peach of a ride. He's had a few issues, primarily with his wind, but we're over that now.
"He seemed to be really enjoying it and for an awful lot of his career he hasn't looked like that. It was a great thrill."
His win capped off a fine few days in Sussex for the dual-purpose handler, who added: "On Monday we won a 6f sprint at Brighton and now we're winning a staying handicap hurdle down the road. It's from one extreme to the other but very good fun."
Bradstock back among winners
Cheltenham Gold Cup-winning trainer Mark Bradstock's 145-day wait for a victory ended as Jakamani recorded an authoritative success in division one of the 2m3f handicap hurdle.
The seven-year-old's eight-and-a-half-length win under Nico de Boinville, who doubled up when Chives won the 2m1½f handicap hurdle, also gave Bradstock his first success of the campaign.
