Total Commitment was 4-1 up against Count Otto in their clashes since November, but the latter clawed another one back in a lively finish to the feature 6f Betway Handicap, getting the better of his old rival by a neck.

Recon Mission and Requinto Dawn set the early pace and Sean Levey enjoyed the dream trip behind them on the rail aboard the Amanda Perrett-trained Count Otto.

He seized initiative at the top of the straight, but had to be brave to hold off Total Commitment, who closed the gap out wide but it was not enough. Texting was a further nose back in third.

The market suggested Total Commitment would get the verdict for a fifth time as he was sent off the 7-4 favourite, but Levey was confident he and Count Otto could reverse the form back down in trip.

"I rode him over seven furlongs the last time and that didn't go to plan by any means," said the winning rider.

"I ended up having a deep run around the track and he ran pretty well considering. I thought today he'd reverse the form with the eventual second, and he did."

Levey made it a double in the 1m2f maiden won by the Sheikh Mohammed Obaid-owned Lost Eden.

A €200,000 purchase as a yearling, the son of Sea The Stars had been gelded since finishing second at Chelmsford in October, and he responded well to Levey's urgings to win cosily despite showing his inexperience.

Levey said: "He's given a lot of weight away, ten stone, but he's still ahead of the game as far as his age. He spooked at everything all the way down the back straight.

"He has a touch of class about him – he'll have options later on in his life. Going on to the turf will be right up his street."
