Who's on the right path to sprint glory? Graeme Rodway outlines the best route
Saturday: 3.40 York
Pavers Foundation Catherine Memorial Sprint Handicap (Heritage Handicap) | 3yo | 6f | ITV/RTV
The winner’s prize-money for this long-established three-year-old sprint is back up above £50,000 this year, having dipped to £38,655 in 2021, and that means it once again takes its place among the best 6f handicaps for horses making their way in the sprint division.
There has become an accepted path to this race for young sprint handicappers that runs solely through Newmarket. It starts with a 0-100 handicap at the Craven meeting, is followed by another 0-100 handicap at the Guineas fixture, and then moves on to a 0-105 on the Rowley Mile two weeks later that was once known as the Sprint Trophy – this year it was the TRU7 handicap.
