John Quinn has enjoyed a fine run over recent years with speedy two-year-olds with the likes of The Wow Signal, Signora Cabello and Liberty Beach all blazing a trail for the Malton yard.

Tipperary Sunset could not have made a more pleasing debut than when earning an Racing Post Rating of 82 first up at Hamilton.

On that occasion he took early control of proceedings under Jason Hart and the fact that Kevin Ryan sends the runner-up to reoppose suggests both stables believe they have smart colts on their hands.

"He's quite a nice animal and we were pleased with him at Hamilton," said Quinn. "This is a step up but he's in good form and I feel he'll run well."

Quinn's son and assistant Sean tweeted after Tipperary Sunset's maiden success that his father had been saving the name for a good horse ever since his namesake won a handicap at Pontefract off a mark of 38 "to keep the electricity going".

Recalling the original Tipperary Sunset, who won five times for the stable in the late 1990s, Quinn said: "He was a good winner at the right time and a very reliable horse."

Those who would like their pointers from more recent history may take more than a passing interest in the Richard Fahey-trained newcomer Straits Of Moyle, a 105,000gns Breeze-Up purchase at Newmarket last month.

Like his sire Prince Of Lir – winner of this race on debut before landing the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot in 2016 – Straits Of Moyle wears the colours of the Cool Silk partnership.

Tom Dascombe, trainer of Mercurial
Beverley couldn't be more different to Chester but he's a nice two-year-old. He's drawn out wide but that doesn't seem to matter too much anymore.

Richard Hannon, trainer of Robjon
He handled the ground well enough at York last time and ran a great race carrying a penalty for his win at Brighton. The drop back down to five furlongs won't be a problem and while this is a wide open race, I think he goes there with a great chance. He's a nice colt and if we are going to look at Ascot, he'd have to be going close here.

Adam Ryan, assistant trainer of Ryan's Party
He was always going to come on for a run as ours do. Although he's got the form to turn around with Tipperary Sunset, it didn't quite work out for us last time. The stiff five furlongs should suit him down to the ground and he should take a big step forward.
