Signs of summer: Sir Mark Prescott takes the wraps off his first two-year-old
Early Edition is a well-named two-year-old as this daughter of Dawn Approach has the distinction of being Sir Mark Prescott's first juvenile runner of the year before the end of May.
Owners Axom will be out in force at Chepstow for her debut in the 188Bet Mobile Bet10 Get20 Fillies' Novice Stakes (2.10), with racing manager Dan Downie reporting: "She'll like the ground and looked like being an early type when bought in Ireland.
"She's a strong sort and been training well but she'll improve over seven furlongs and a mile, which is no surprise looking at her breeding.
"She has 20 owners, many who were involved in Athenian – who was sold after winning a Listed race in Germany – and most of them will be at Chepstow."
John Gosden is another trainer unveiling his first two-year-old of the season when Daarik runs in the 188Bet Mobile Bet 10 Get 20 EBF Novice Stakes (1.50) at Nottingham.
The Tamayuz colt was bought by Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum for 325,000gns as a yearling and has to overcome the outside stall being drawn one.
Nicholls family looking for more fortune
Megan Nicholls is looking to make more inroads into her 5lb claim on her return to Chepstow for two rides a week after giving her father Paul a first success there on the Flat with their two-year-old Whataguy.
Nicholls, looking forward to defending her Silks Series title this summer, rides Kings Inn in the ReeceR Group Ltd Novice Stakes (4.55) and Doncaster Sales-bound Volpone Jelois in the Coopers Marquees Handicap (5.25).
"I need 13 more winners to get down to a 3lb claim and that's a realistic aim this year," said Nicholls, who is helping in the training of the five two-year-olds at Ditcheat.
She is hopeful of Volpone Jelois going close in what will be the five-year-old's last start before a sales date.
"I'd love to pick up a win on him but everything has to fall right for him. The step back in distance will help, as a mile and a half is his optimum."
Kings Inn has disappointed over hurdles and the four-year-old is being given some confidence-boosting runs on the Flat.
Mosse makes first trip to Wales
Gerald Mosse has ridden all around the world but adds another country to his passport as he crosses the Severn Bridge into Wales for the first time for two rides at Chepstow.
He will be riding at his 23rd course in Britain with two mounts for owner Dr Johnny Hon in Global Exceed (2.45), trained by Ed Dunlop, and Global Tango (3.45), trained by Charlie Hills.
Yet to ride at the other course in the principality Ffos Las, Mosse has been most successful at Ascot (11 wins) and the two Newmarket courses where he has ridden 15 winners.
