Race-king Fahey six-handed in latest challenge

No trainer has enjoyed more success in this valuable event than Richard Fahey, victorious with Mr Lupton (2015), Bond’s Girl (2014) and Wootton Bassett (2010).
He is six-handed this time, headed by Great Prospector, but it would not be any surprise to see other members of the squad involved in the finish too.
“On form Great Prospector is my best chance,” Fahey said. “It was good to soft at York last time, so the ground should be fine.
“Zap ran okay the other day on his first start since being gelded. He just needed that run, and could prove second best of mine.”
Fahey also fields International Man, a big horse who is expected to progress with time, and Requinto Dawn, who has raced exclusively at five furlongs so far.
“The softer the better for Jedi Master,” Fahey added. “I wouldn’t be surprised if he got placed, while Cosa Nostra is another horse that I like."
York form put to the test
Tangled, Great Prospector and Alba Power, who finished first, second and fourth in a similar event over six furlongs at York’s Ebor meeting last month, renew rivalry.
On that occasion Tangled got the better of Great Prospector by a neck, with Alba Power two lengths back in third.
All three carried the same weight that day, but Alba Power now gets 3lb off his two rivals and Hugo Palmer is hopeful it could make the difference.
“I was glad when the rain came because he will appreciate some cut in the ground,” Palmer said. “I was pleased with him at York, and feel that a bit further will suit."
Drawn high, watch them fly
The last six winners of this contest have raced from stalls 16, 20, 20, 15, 10 and 13. However, low numbers often do well at Doncaster when there is ease in the ground, and it could prove a case of where the best pace is.
What they say
Adam Ryan, assistant to Kevin Ryan, trainer of Queen’s Sargent and Magic Jazz
The trip looks ideal for Queen’s Sargent and he should appreciate the ground. Magic Jazz has won his last two, and has improved for the step up in trip.
Karl Burke, trainer of Humble Gratitude
Hopefully he’s drawn on the right side and goes there in good form.
Bryan Smart, trainer of Alfa McGuire
He was impressive at Beverley last time and the more it dries out the happier I will be.
Brian Meehan, trainer of Faraasah
He has had a quiet season so far, but is ready for this run and I think he could be very competitive.
