Four things to look out for on Good Friday - including a 2,000 Guineas entry

The all-weather campaign comes to a conclusion on Good Friday with Finals' Day at Lingfield and supporting meetings at Newcastle and Chelmsford. Here are four things to look out for during the afternoon . . .

1. More favourite fever?

The feature Betway Easter Classic (4.15) at Lingfield has gone the way of the outright or joint favourite in five of the last six years and Bangkok will try to continue the theme.

The 2019 winner Matterhorn returned the biggest price of the winners when bucking the trend at odds of 9-2, but Bangkok is the one to beat on ratings and heads the market at 5-4 with William Hill.

Bangkok has form figures of 1321 at Lingfield and will find this easier than contesting the Saudi Cup, in which he finished eighth on his last start in February.

2. Big day for Doyle

Hollie Doyle is set to finish second to Richard Kingscote in the all-weather jockeys’ championship and has an exciting book of five rides on the final day of the campaign at Lingfield.

The progressive Amtiyaz (2.00) has claims in the Marathon, as does Harry’s Bar (3.10) in the Sprint despite a wide draw in stall 12, but Doyle’s best chance appears to be Mighty Gurkha (3.45) in the three-year-old conditions stakes.

Mighty Gurkha, trained by Archie Watson, is a three-time winner and runner-up from four all-weather starts and teed up a tilt at this race with a game victory in a fast-track qualifier at Kempton.

3. Last-chance saloon

Connections of the most successful horse of the all-weather campaign win £10,000 and the outcome will be decided on the final day.

Nortonthorpe Boy has been a revelation since joining Phil McEntee and leads the standings on countback with six winners, but victory for the George Boughey-trained Khatm or Spring Romance, trained by Mick Appleby, on Friday would seal the crown.

Khatm (3.35), another six-time winner this winter, is a hot favourite for the mile handicap at Chelmsford, while five-time scorer Spring Romance (2.50) is a 10-1 shot for the 6f handicap at Newcastle.

4. Don't miss the Burradon

Belmont Stakes and Dubai World Cup second Gronkowski and dual Huxley Stakes scorer Forest Ranger are two of the three previous winners of the Listed Ladbrokes Burradon Stakes at Newcastle and another classy prospect may well be unearthed.

Only four runners contest the £50,000 contest and the 105-rated Megallan (3.25) is odds-on to score, but the Roger Varian-trained Legion Of Honour is an intriguing opponent.

He beat a subsequent novice winner at this track in November and is a 50-1 shot with William Hill for the Qipco 2,000 Guineas next month.
