Most eyes will be on prolific mare Agent Of Fortune, who bids for a remarkable eighth all-weather victory since joining Gary Moore in December.

Her record of seven wins from ten starts in less than three months is testament not only to Moore’s training prowess, but also the mare’s will-to-win and soundness.

Agent Of Fortune is officially 2lb ‘well-in’ under a 5lb penalty for her penultimate success over course and distance, and it would be no surprise if she came with her trademark flying finish to add to her tally. Stall ten isn’t ideal, but she has the ability and attitude to overcome it.

To some extent the five-year-old’s chance is dependent on whether unbeaten Sherpa Trail has graduated to handicaps off a fair mark.

It’s hard to be dogmatic if an opening 82 underestimates him based on the evidence of two victories over 7f at Wolverhampton, but what does seem certain is the step up to a mile will bring further improvement. Trainer Ed Walker clearly likes him a great deal.

Silverturnstogold, a four-time winner at Southwell this winter, is another serious contender, while each-way backers could do worse than consider Family Fortunes, who should be there or thereabouts at the finish.

What the stats say

Rebecca Menzies has won with three of her last five runners. She is represented by Tough Remedy, who wears cheekpieces for the first time.

What the trainers say

Ed Walker, trainer of Sherpa Trail
He has done nothing wrong in his two starts so far. He took a long time to come to hand but is improving rapidly now. I think a mark of 82 is fair and he’s a pretty exciting prospect. I’m sure he’ll improve for the step up to a mile.

Michael Madgwick, trainer of Family Fortunes
He’s at the top of his game at present. We’re taking 7lb off him with Stefano Cherchi’s claim and he definitely has a chance – he always runs well for an apprentice. This horse has been really good for me and I’m looking forward to the race.

Gary Moore, trainer of Agent Of Fortune and Gossiping
What can you say about Agent Of Fortune? She’s an absolute star. She was well handicapped when I got her and her confidence has grown with every win. She’s a very sound mare and I think there could be another win in her. I wish she was drawn where my other runner, Gossiping, is in stall one, but I’m sure she’ll run well. Gossiping would be capable of winning the race if everything clicked into place, but he hasn’t been at his best lately.

John Bridger, trainer of Delicate Kiss
It looks a tough race but she’s well. She has twice won over the course and distance and will give a good account of herself.

Tony Carroll, trainer of Silverturnstogold
He’s been in great form this winter. His four wins have all come at Southwell, but I don’t necessarily think that’s the key to him. The blinkers have helped his concentration and the switch to Kempton won’t bother him. I still think he’s capable of winning off this mark.
