In-form Mulvany predicting a Stormy day at Ballinrobe
Mick Mulvany was beaming at the Curragh on Sunday when Silver Service, a daughter of one of the best horses the trainer has managed in Tough As Nails, landed the opening nursery of the season.
A winner at Tipperary under talented claimer Ben Coen, Stormy Tale disappointed connections at Navan off 6lb higher, where Mulvany feels the filly didn't enjoy the ground.
Mulvany, who is the son of an astute businessman and lottery winner, said: "We were a little disappointed with her the last day at Navan when she just didn’t let herself down on the ground.
He added: "She was very good the time before that at Tipperary and we’re very hopeful that she can get back on track. It's been an amazing year for us and please God it can keeps going."
Bright things expected from Bolger’s Dawn Hoofer
Winner of the Apprentice Derby at the Curragh, Dawn Hoofer suffered defeat when stepping up to 1m5f at Leopardstown before scoring back over 1m3f in a competitive contest at Killarney just over a week ago off a mark of 80.
Up 5lb here, Dawn Hoofer is the sole three-year-old in the line-up, and is clearly on the up.
Cromwell's Panda picking up the pace
Greenpanda may be just one from 18 but there's plenty to like about Gavin Cromwell's inmate, a leading player for the penultimate 1m5f handicap (8.20) under Rory Cleary.
Cromwell's filly has been in good form of late, finishing second at Sligo before filling the same spot at Bellewstown when seemingly having the field at full stretch coming down the hill.
A change of luck could be on the cards for the four-year-old in what looks a typically competitive contest.
Bibliotheca, who landed a big gamble from the front over this course and distance two starts ago, is of obvious interest again for Willie Browne and Leigh Roche while Boom Or Bush represents the shrewd outfit of County Louth-based Harry Rogers.
