The tough uphill run to the finish at Pontefract where racing takes place on Monday
Pontefract: hosts racing on Monday afternoon

The weather is set fair for another beautiful week in Britain and Ireland as we build up to the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown on Saturday.

We get the confirmations today for the Group 1 while we also have four meetings to get stuck into at Pontefract, Wolverhampton, Windsor and Hamilton.

The final race of the day is at 9.15pm so spare a thought for those stable staff making long journeys home. Their contribution to the racing industry are being celebrated all week with various initiatives, charity events and celebrations for Racing Staff Week.

Final thought

Field sizes are not great again today but have some sympathy for the trainers. Whether a horse performs on the ground is not so much the issue, instead it is a case of how racing on fast ground can potentially affect a horse's limbs is more the problem. A little rain would not go amiss.
