Lambourn trainer Charlie Hills is excited about the full resumption of the Flat turf season next week after warming up for big meetings at Newmarket and Newbury with a pleasing all-weather double.

Menai Bridge and King’s Knight were both successful under Kieran Shoemark for Hills, who is operating at a 30 per cent strike-rate in Britain this year.

Hills said: "I'm really pleased with Menai Bridge. I thought he might need the run but he was great and could step up in trip in the future. King's Knight was given a nice lead and a lovely ride from Kieran.

"The Flat season really gets going next week at Newmarket and Newbury and it's a big week for us, so it’s pleasing to head into that with a couple of winners under our belt."

Excellent Eden

The most eyecatching performance of the day belonged to the Richard Hannon-trained Lost Eden, who could have a bright summer after destroying his rivals, including Godolphin’s odds-on favourite Royal Mews, in the 1m2f novice.

The four-year-old son of Sea The Stars cost €120,000 as a foal before being resold for €200,000 as a juvenile, and backed up last month's course-and-distance victory with a nine-length success.

Winning jockey Sean Levey said: "It’s a step in the right direction again. Looking back, I don’t think he beat much last time out but this race had a lot more depth to it.

"I thought Royal Mews would be hard to beat. I was surprised at how far he stretched away in the end."
