Simeen now second favourite for French Guineas after smooth comeback success
The Aga Khan's Simeen is now just 5-1 for the Poule d'Essai des Pouliches with Coral and Betfair after getting up under a hand ride from Christophe Soumillon in the Prix de la Pistole at Chantilly on Wednesday.
The daughter of Lope De Vega is now three from three and trainer Jean-Claude Rouget believes she has a big future, even though she has yet to contest a Pattern race.
"We hesitated between this race and the Prix de la Grotte for some time and have ended up making the right choice," said Rouget. "She has had less of a hard time and is still unbeaten. She made up quite a lot of ground, which is not easy to do on this type of ground, and doesn't seem to have had a tough race.
"I thought she was good on her debut at Saint-Cloud but we decided against forcing things in [a Group race like] the Prix des Reservoirs, knowing that with the Aga Khan's horses you are better looking after them for their three-year-old career. I really like the way she won there."
Monday's Longchamp winner Tropbeau is the 7-4 favourite with both firms but the Chantilly Class 1 won by Simeen – although it has changed name and venue several times – has produced decent fillies in recent years including Come Alive and Siyarafina, who went on to win the Prix Saint-Alary last season.
