Poetic Charm soars home to continue Cape Verdi dominance for Godolphin
The third meeting of the 2019 Dubai World Cup Carnival at Meydan was highlighted by the Group 2 Cape Verdi, won in style by Poetic Charm, who was continuing the fine record of Godolphin in the mile turf feature first contested in 2004.
A four-year-old Dubawi half-sister to Teofilo, Poetic Charm is the second winner in the race for Charlie Appleby, after Certify in 2014, but a seventh for the owner since 2011 when Aspectoflove provided their first success for Saeed bin Suroor, who has five winners of the race to his name.
Settled well off the pace by James Doyle, who completed a double for himself, Appleby and Godolphin, Poetic Charm made smooth progress at the top of the straight before sweeping past Asoof - also owned by Godolphin - who gave valiant chase but was never going to get back up for Bin Suroor.
