Ispolini storms to Nad Al Sheba Trophy success for Barzalona and Appleby
The Group 3 Nad Al Sheba Trophy was the highlight of Meydan’s ninth meeting of the Dubai World Cup Carnival and was won in imperious fashion by Ispolini, partnered by Mickael Barzalona for Charlie Appleby.
The race was, however, marred for Appleby and Godolphin by the fatal injury sustained by hot favourite Brundtland, a four-year-old who had won four of his five previous starts, including two French Group 2s.
Ispolini, on his third outing of this year’s carnival, eased into contention early in the straight and scooted clear to score by ten and a half lengths over Red Galileo, saddled by Saeed Bin Suroor and his stablemate Bin Battuta to give Godolphin a 1-2-3.
