It was noted this week that the Matchbook Betting Exchange Stakes, once known as the Extel and won by the Amanda Perrett-trained You're Hired, was worth £3,000 more 20 years ago than it was on Thursday.

With respect to winning owner George Materna, who was fulfilling a long-time ambition of striking at Goodwood's signature meeting, does that really matter?

The prize-money certainly didn't seem to concern Perrett, who said: "It’s so special for George to have a winner here."
