Must-have info for Goodwood: five jockeys who punters should keep a close eye on

Liam Keniry

Prior to this season Liam Keniry had ridden 20 winners from 289 runners at Goodwood. Roll the clock forward to the present and you find Keniry boasting a 57 per cent strike-rate at the track this season having ridden four winners from seven rides for a level-stakes profit of +£33.25.

One of those wins came aboard the Nigel Twiston-Davies-trained Paddys Motorbike in June and Keniry renews his association with the seven-year-old in the 2m4½f Unibet Goodwood Handicap on Wednesday.

The jockey is lined up for two more at the Sussex track in the shape of last-time-out winner Blackheath, who has received a favourable draw in the 7f handicap on Wednesday, while the Dominic Ffrench Davis-trained Indeed shapes to be a lively outsider in Friday's Unibet Golden Mile.

Frankie Dettori

Is there any reason to assume Dettori's magical 2019 season will hit a speed bump at Goodwood? The answer is an unequivocal no.

The Italian is the winningmost jockey in history at Goodwood and is a four-time Sussex Stakes winner – most recently with Ramonti in 2007 – while he has won the Goodwood Cup on a further three occasions.

Stradivarius, Too Darn Hot, Mehdaayih and Visinari are just four of the box-office rides Dettori has at the Sussex venue. This could well be the latest glorious chapter in a glorious summer for the jockey.

Oisin Murphy

After notching his 11th Group 1 victory on the Sir Michael Stoute-trained Veracious in the Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket's July meeting, Oisin Murphy's confidence could not be higher.

The leading rider at Goodwood this season with eight winners, Murphy has earmarked the 2019 jockeys' title as his primary aim this season and is therefore set to very busy over the five-day meeting.

As retained rider to Qatar Racing, Murphy will be emblazoned with the same colours aboard the likes of Guildsman (Molecomb Stakes) and Air Force Jet (Richmond Stakes) as he was when partnering Lightning Spear to victory in the Sussex Stakes last season.

He further advertised his prowess around Goodwood with five winners during the track's May meeting.

Danny Tudhope

The man standing in Murphy's way for the jockeys' championship is the in-form Danny Tudhope, who is riding on a high following his tremendous successes at Royal Ascot last month.

David O'Meara – who recently called for northern trainers to back Tudhope's championship bid – will provide the the bulk of Tudhope's rides at Goodwood with the Sussex Stakes-bound Lord Glitters bidding to follow up his Queen Anne victory the unrivalled highlight.

Elsewhere, the O'Meara-trained Escobar will give Tudhope another chance of big-race success in the Unibet Golden Mile as the jockey attempts to break a Goodwood rot that has seen him ride just two winners from 50 rides at the track.

Harry Bentley

He may lack the blockbuster rides that some of his weighing room colleagues are set to enjoy this week but trainers are not missing the trick with Harry Bentley, who could have as many as 15 rides over the five days.

The jockey's 19 winners at Goodwood over the past five seasons have yielded a +£29.63 level-stakes profit, while his five winners this season make Goodwood his most prolific track along with the July course at Newmarket.

Royal Ascot winner and Thoroughbred Stakes hope Biometric is the headline act in a book of rides which also includes Future Investment in Wednesday's Unibet Handicap and promising juvenile sprinter Raahy in Wednesday's Molecomb Stakes.
