The very best jockeys tend to employ drivers and that might have to be the route apprentice Nathan Evans takes after he recorded the biggest success of his short career in the Stewards' Cup consolation race on Hoof It, who won the big one five years ago.

Evans, who is based with Hoof It's trainer Mick Easterby, had no traffic trouble on the strapping nine-year-old, but has a few more problems getting around when not on horseback.

Easterby's son David bemoaned in yesterday's Racing Post the fact that Evans, who was celebrating his 19th birthday, has not passed his driving test.
