Brighton chairman Tony Bloom might have to wait a while for his Premier League side to make a date in Europe but his star sprinter Librisa Breeze is taking him into racing's equivalent of the Champions League this year.

The winner of the Group 1 British Champions Sprint at Ascot last October was invited this week to run in the Al Quoz Sprint on Dubai World Cup night.

Trainer Dean Ivory said: "We have accepted the invitation. Librisa Breeze wintered very well and is back in training and on schedule for the race. He won't be going out early – it will be there and back for the race."

Group 1 performer

Paddy Power introduced the six-year-old grey at 7-1 third favourite for the Al Quoz behind 6-4 market leader Ertijaal and 7-2 Blue Point.

Librisa Breeze gave Bloom and Ivory their first Group 1 success when beating the top sprinters at Ascot having previously only won in top handicap company.

After running down Tasleet, Caravaggio and Harry Angel in the six-furlong feature, Bloom and Ivory spoke of overseas challenges including Hong Kong and Australia as well as Dubai.

Librisa Breeze was raised to a rating of 119 for his Ascot heroics, 1lb in front of the current Al Quoz favourite Ertijaal, who warmed up with a five-furlong win at Meydan for the March 31 race in which he has finished third and second in the last two years.

Ivory added: "I still say Librisa Breeze is better over seven furlongs but there is no race for him out there over that distance. I think he could run over a mile and a furlong but the race at Meydan over that trip is on the dirt."

Ascot was only the second time Librisa Breeze, a winner at up to a mile and a quarter, ran over six furlongs having finished sixth in the same race to The Tin Man the year before.
