Robbie Wilders' play of the day at Hexham

Rewired

4.20 Hexham

Tristan Davidson has some excellent chances in both codes and I have a feeling he might just clean up. His first runner of the day is Rewired, who can get the ball rolling in the 2m handicap hurdle (4.20) at Hexham.

Rewired, a useful handicap hurdler for Richard Newland and Jamie Insole last season, made his first start for Davidson in November and spent much of the months that followed struggling in higher-grade races.

However, a drop into Class 4 company and a much-reduced mark did the trick at Newcastle this month as he bounced back for a decisive victory.

The selection stays in the same grade and should remain ultra-competitive off just 4lb higher. This time last year he was a cracking sixth in a red-hot handicap hurdle on soft ground at Aintree's Grand National meeting off 16lb higher, finishing on the coattails of recent Imperial Cup first and third Go Dante and Afadil. He is versatile regarding ground conditions and can outclass these.
