Paul Kealy's play of the day at Ayr

Lavida Adiva is favourite for the 3m½f mares' handicap hurdle having gone up 6lb for her runaway win at Kelso last month, but I'm not sure that form is reliable as the warm favourite hated ground which was softer than the official verdict, the second favourite was beaten a mile out and a 500-1 shot rated just 88 finished too close off levels.

Preferred is Rockola Vogue, who has yet to finish out of the first three in eight starts for David Killahena and Graeme McPherson, has improved her Racing Post Rating every time she has hit the track and shapes as though stepping up in trip will bring out more.

Admittedly, the form of her latest win at Musselburgh is not particularly strong as the runner-up was 12lb out of the weights, but Rockola Vogue did plenty wrong and still managed to win.

Hampered by a faller at the third, she was held up in a long last while the eventual second and third (on a four-timer) raced in first and second throughout, and she made her share of mistakes on the way round, but was well on top at the line even if the margin was only half a length.

She does need to brush up her jumping, but the handicapper has left her alone for winning what was a decent prize (one of the Go North finals), and while you can see why, he may yet regret it.
