The first horse to back is Taxiing in the 1m6f handicap at Wolverhampton (2.00). She began her racing career in Ireland but has recently been purchased by the same connections responsible for top-notch sprinter Rohaan, and she shaped particularly well last week.
The David Evans-trained four-year-old has been weak in the betting on both starts for this team, but caught the eye at Chelmsford most recently, giving a heavily backed odds-on favourite, who had bolted up on his previous start, a real scare.
Her runner-up finish there can be marked up as she was shuffled back to last turning into the home straight after becoming outpaced, before making smart late gains on her first attempt at a staying trip.
This unexposed filly should have plenty more to offer in low-grade staying handicaps and runs off the same mark with Rossa Ryan taking over in the saddle.
I'm also interested in the Ryan-ridden Laura's Breeze for trainer Ed Dunlop in the 7f handicap on the Wolverhampton card (3.05). She won over course and distance in November and has returned to form on her last two outings after initially failing to progress from that winning effort.
She was caught much further back than ideal at Kempton on her latest start and did well to get within a neck of the prominently ridden winner, who had a stone in hand on his peak form and was well backed to snap a losing run.
In another couple of strides Laura's Breeze would have got there and, with a strong turn of foot at this level, she won't be inconvenienced by this return to 7f. There should be enough early speed for her to settle and she is dangerously treated off just 1lb higher.
The highest-rated horse of the day on the Flat is Tarsus and he should be too strong in the 6f conditions event at Dundalk (5.10).
Tarsus has been a rapid improver since fitted with a tongue-tie last month. He was rated just 63 before causing a 66-1 upset in a 5f maiden at this course, edging out a promising rival with daylight back to the third.
The selection then proved that was no fluke by progressing past his revised rating of 76, going down on his shield behind Michael O'Callaghan's smart sprinter Francis Meynell in a conditions race nine days later.
The winner was a 7-1 chance on his previous outing to beat the likes of subsequent Breeders' Cup winner Big Evs and Flora Of Bermuda in the Group 2 Flying Childers, so the Dundalk form looks strong.
Tarsus now finds himself rated 91 and towers above this opposition on what he has achieved, with Cian Horgan, who has built a strong association with the three-year-old, looking solid value for his 7lb claim.
He steps up an extra furlong in trip and that should suit in light of his strength at the finish on his last two outings. Unless any of the less-exposed runners take a massive step forward, this is his for the taking.
It's back to Britain for the final selection as Billyjoh has an excellent opportunity in the 6f handicap at Newcastle (6.30).
He beat subsequent winning stablemate Tyke on his previous start at Southwell over the festive period and did well to snatch the victory by a neck.
He missed the kick and was held up in a slowly run affair, building on the promise he showed at Chelmsford the time before after finishing a close fourth, despite being badly blocked in his run.
The low-mileage gelding is Mick Appleby's sole runner of the day and can do the business off 4lb higher against largely exposed opposition under Alistair Rawlinson.
