Alex Molcan v Taylor Fritz

Taylor Fritz’s Wimbledon preparations saw him claim silverware in Eastbourne and the American should have few concerns in round three of Wimbledon against Alex Molcan. Fritz has won his opening two games at the All England Club in straight sets and his surprise success at the Indian Wells Masters this year shows what he is capable of when in the groove.

Cristian Garin v Jenson Brooksby

Jenson Brooksby hinted that his grass-court game was strong when finishing runner-up to Kevin Anderson in Newport last year and the highly-touted American youngster has been living up to that promise at Wimbledon. Wins over Mikhail Kukushkin and Benjamin Bonzi read well and his Chilean opponent Cristian Garin may need a clay court to be seen to maximum effect.

Cori Gauff v Amanda Anisimova

This all-American clash can go the way of Cori Gauff, who finished runner-up at the French Open last month and looks a serious contender in her bid to go one better at Wimbledon. On a surface that suits her aggressive style, the athletic Gauff should overcome compatriot Anisimova, who needed three sets to see off Lauren Davis in the last round.

Harmony Tan v Katie Boulter

This has been a breakthrough Grand Slam for both players but Katie Boulter, spurred on by a passionate home crowd, can advance to the fourth round. Tan denied Serena Williams in round one but the 40-year-old American was evidently below her best and Boulter’s latest win over last year’s runner-up Karolina Pliskova looks the standout piece of form.

Paula Badosa v Petra Kvitova

Paula Badosa has made huge strides in recent seasons but these are the optimum conditions for Petra Kvitova. The Czech star is a two-time Wimbledon winner and she warmed up for this year’s event with a grass-court title in Eastbourne, so her confidence should be high.

Qinwen Zheng v Elena Rybakina

Elena Rybakina impressed as she outclassed Bianca Andreescu 6-4 7-6 in the second round and the classy Kazakh can follow up against Chinese teenager Qinwen Zheng, who may still be adapting to competition on grass. Rybakina made the fourth round on her Wimbledon debut last year and can repeat the feat.
