Day 11 preview

This year's Wimbledon women's singles tournament has been one to remember with all but one of the event's top 15 seeds crashing out before the quarter-final stage.

Iga Swiatek, Anett Kontaveit and Emma Raducanu were among those to fall early at the All England Club, which hosts two compelling semi-finals on Thursday.

Looking to make amends for her French Open disappointment, Ons Jabeur is in action in her first ever Grand Slam semi-final against unseeded German Tajana Maria, while former champion Simona Halep is set to take on Kazakhstan's Elena Rybakina.

Ons Jabeur v Tatjana Maria

Ons Jabeur made history at Wimbledon on Tuesday, becoming the first Arab and North African player in the Open Era to reach a Grand Slam semi-final and she has a golden opportunity to go the distance at the All England Club.

Jabeur is the only remaining player from the women's top 15 seeds and can be backed at 11-8 to win the title.

The Tunisian's quarter-final contest with Marie Bouzkova provided her with her sternest test yet in London as she fell a set down to the plucky Czech before responding emphatically to win each of the last two sets 6-1.

Before that Jabeur had not dropped a set at Wimbledon this year and she is still on a ten-match winning streak on grass, having won the Grass Court Championships Berlin title in the process.

Tatjana Maria is enjoying a fairy tale Wimbledon run but the world number 103 has lost her opening set in three of her five matches at Wimbledon and a similar start against Jabeur will surely be punished.

Jabeur's grass-court victories in the last few weeks have been pretty comprehensive and she has claimed at least six more games than her opponents in four of her five matches at Wimbledon.

With that in mind, she looks a fine bet at -5.5 on the games handicap against underdog Maria.

Elena Rybakina v Simona Halep

Going into this year's Wimbledon women's singles tournament, Simona Halep had not played at the All England Club since she beat Serena Williams to win the title back in 2019.

But the 30-year-old Romanian has picked up from where she left off in London, winning all five of her matches at this season's tournament in straight sets and spending less than six hours on court.

Her last two scalps - fourth seed Paula Badosa and promising American 20th seed Amanda Anisimova - could only win nine games between them and there has been a real ruthlessness about Halep's play.

She is on a 12-match winning streak on Wimbledon courts and has responded well to an injury-plagued 2021 by drafting in Patrick Mouratoglou, former coach of Serena Williams, earlier this year.

Elena Rybakina will be in great spirits after reaching her first ever Grand Slam semi-final but this is not uncharted territory for Halep, who can make her experience count with another rapid 2-0 success.
