Novak Djokovic v Marton Fucsovics

Novak Djokovic is a master at crushing opponents and his Wimbledon quarter-final opponent Marton Fucsovics will need a miracle to get a result.

It's about trying to gauge and assess how Fucsovics will perform against the world number one, who, after dropping a set in his opener against Jack Draper, has subsequently ousted Kevin Anderson, Denis Kudla and Cristian Garin in straight sets.

Fucsovics, Wimbledon junior champion in 2010, is playing well and the 29-year-old Hungarian has seen off Jannik Sinner, Jiri Vesely, Diego Schwartzman and Andrey Rublev - against whom a whopping 88 per cent of the Iron Man's first-serve points were winners - to reach his first major quarter-final.

But as we know, that could count for little against a player who has taken tennis to a new level and the oddsmakers expect Djokovic to boss Fucsovics as he did Anderson, who he beat 6-3 6-3 6-3, and Garin, who succumbed 6-2 6-4 6-2.

Fucsovics could possibly make a fist of it, though, because he shared the first two sets against Djokovic in their two previous meetings, both on hard courts, in the US Open and in Qatar.

It's quite feasible that grass is Fucsovics' best surface and while Djokovic will likely put his stamp on the match in the opening set, it would not be a surprise to see the outsider be more competitive in set two when he could be more settled and aware of the task facing him.

Garin fared better against Djokovic in their second set and Fucsovics may do likewise.

Karen Khachanov v Denis Shapovalov

This is an interesting match-up between players who have recorded fine results to reach the last eight.

Burly Russian Karen Khachanov despatched Frances Tiafoe in straight sets in round three then needed five sets to pip Sebastian Korda in the last 16.

Meanwhile, after a second-round walkover, Denis Shapovalov stepped things up to see off seasoned duo Andy Murray and Roberto Bautista Agut in straight sets.

Shapovalov and Khachanov have played each other only once before, in the 2019 Davis Cup, when the Canadian edged victory in three competitive sets on a Madrid hard court.

Shapovalov looks the more talented operator and, as the oddsmakers believe, it will be disappointing if the Canadian 22-year-old cannot find a way to dominate Khachanov.

So the best way of punting could be to back the favourite, who fired down 13 aces against Murray and 15 against Bautista Agut, to seal his place in the semis in three or four sets.

Matteo Berrettini v Felix Auger-Aliassime

Matteo Berrettini is enjoying a fine time of things on grass this season and the Italian justified his top seeding at the Queen's Club in excellent style.

He's a fairly warm order to defeat Felix Auger-Aliassime and progress to the last four of Wimbledon.

But the Canadian is one of the finest prospects in tennis and after his superb, confidence-boosting victory over Alexander Zverev in round four, in which he served 17 aces, it could pay punters to back the outsider to at least make a game of it against Berrettini.

The favourite is no stranger to posting straight-sets wins over opponents and three of his four singles wins at the All England Club this year have been three-setters. An impressive 84 per cent of Berrettini's first-service points were winners in his latest singles outing against Ilya Ivashka too.

However, Auger-Aliassime is a cut above Berrettini's early victims Botic Van de Zandschulp, Aljaz Bedene and Ivashka. And given that Guido Pella won a set against Berrettini in their first-round clash, Auger-Aliassime could quite easily be good enough to win at least two sets.

Roger Federer v Hubert Hurkacz

Not for the first time, things are falling nicely into place for Roger Federer at Wimbledon, but tennis's grand old man would do well to respect Hubert Hurkacz in their quarter-final rumble because the Pole is making excellent progress this year.

Hurkacz has already won titles this year in Delray Beach and at the Miami Masters, which used to be known as the fifth major in its Key Biscayne days, so the fact the 24-year-old has returned to somewhere near his best on the nippy lawns in south-west London should surprise few regular observers.

Hurkacz dropped his first sets of the competition in his five-set last-16 defeat of second seed Daniil Medvedev, a result which has to suit eight-time Wimbledon hero Federer. The great man has dropped two sets in his opener against Adrian Mannarino and another against Cameron Norrie but is still making magic on court.

Federer won their only previous meeting 6-4 6-4 in Indian Wells in 2019 and, after posting a first-service success rate of 79 per cent in his last-16 victory over Lorenzo Sonego, the Swiss legend should still have enough to triumph before Hurkacz wins two sets.
