Defeat at home to Bath last time out has left Sale hanging on in the race for playoffs and they go to Northampton targeting a win to keep their destiny in their own hands.

Bristol are level on points and a place below Sale in fifth and their final two fixtures are against the teams in tenth and 11th place, Leicester and London Irish, so there is no room for another slip.

Sale won the Premiership Rugby Cup final against Quins last time out and coach Steve Diamond has made just four changes to his line-up so there appears to be no question of easing up.

Northampton have made only three changes to their team from the European Champions Cup defeat at Exeter, but they have lost their last five Premiership games and haven’t won at home in the league this year.

Sale’s last two away trips brought success at Leicester and Wasps and a strong and focused line-up look well placed to add to that list.

Seven of Sale’s 12 wins this season, and all of their last four away have been by a margin of no more than 12 points and that looks a worthwhile bet.
