Friday preview

Most pundits expected London to be out of their depth on their return to the Betfred Super League after a four-season absence, but Danny Ward's Broncos have battled bravely to defy pre-season relegation odds of 1-3.

They have been odds-on to survive at various stages but the trapdoor to the Championship could open if London lose at second-bottom Hull KR.

Defeat will leave the Broncos relying on a string of highly unlikely results and the cellar-dwellers desperately need to beat Rovers and win at Wakefield next weekend.

They are 9-4 to get the first part of the job done with Hull KR 2-5 to guarantee their own survival.

Even with influential players Mitch Garbutt, Matt Parcell and Craig Hall back in the squad, that looks a short price bearing in mind KR have lost their last two home games to struggling Wakefield and Huddersfield.

Backing the visitors with an eight-point start looks the way to go. Although the Broncos have won only three times on their travels they have rewarded handicap backers nine times in 12 away trips, including when losing 22-12 at Craven Park in February when the line was 14 points.

On a nervous evening, it could be worth backing the first score to be a penalty as was the case when London beat Rovers 26-24 in Ealing in June. Odds in excess of 3-1 against an early two-pointer appear generous.

There are four other fixtures on a hectic night and St Helens are 1-5 to reach the 50-point mark and complete a 100 per cent regular-season home record by seeing off Huddersfield.

Saints have spluttered in the past fortnight but can return to form and overcome the 14-point handicap. They hammered the Giants 38-2 at the Totally Wicked Stadium in June.

Their main rivals for Grand Final glory, Wigan and Warrington, are long odds-on for home wins.

The Warriors, who have won ten of their last 11 games, are asked to concede a 22-point start to out-of-sorts Catalans while the Wolves, who have lost their last six league games, have star man Blake Austin back as they attempt to give up ten points to Wakefield.

Neither match appeals as a betting proposition but the layers may have gone too far in making Leeds four-point underdogs at home to Salford.

The Rhinos secured Super League safety by winning in London last weekend but shouldn't lack motivation in front of their own fans.
The Red Devils have won six on the trot to move into the top five, but all good runs come to an end and this could be the night.
