Crutchlow could shine if the rain arrives

Championship leader Vinales fastest in practice

Championship leader Maverick Vinales topped the practice times for this weekend's Dutch GP at Assen, but with rain expected throughout qualifying day the grid could have a less familiar look.

This season has seen some circuits suit Vinales's Yamaha best, but reigning champion Marc Marquez's Honda team gave come out on top at other tracks.

The last two races, however, have gone the way of Ducati's Andrea Dovizioso. Having taken pole position at the Cathedral of Speed last year, Dovi will have arrived in Holland confident of at least cementing his second place in the standings.

Wet weather will not cheer him though. Last year's chaotic rain-hit Dutch race was won by 500-1 chance Jack Miller to prove that anything can happen in the wet.

Satellite Ducati rider Danilo Petrucci is in fantastic form and has shown he can cope in the rain. However 8-1 for him to take pole is a little too short to get excited about.

Instead, try the 10-1 about Cal Crutchlow each-way. The Briton will be buoyed by signing a two-year contract extension with Honda last week, and he stormed to pole position in the rain at Silverstone last year.

Crutchlow hasn't matched the heights of last season, when he won two races, but he has had two front-row grid slots this year and was a fine fifth in practice.
