UFC 283 preview
Two titles are up for grabs at the first numbered event of 2023 as UFC 283 heads to Rio de Janeiro.
Former champion Glover Teixeira takes on Jamahal Hill for the vacant light-heavyweight belt in the main event.
Teixeira hasn't fought since losing the title via a submission defeat to Jiri Prochazka at UFC 275, which ended his six-fight win streak.
Meanwhile, Hill is getting his first shot at gold after winning three in a row and emerging as one of the most formidable punchers in the division.
Hill's last four victories have come via KO or TKO and he'll be confident of landing regularly on 43-year-old Teixeira, who struggled to defend himself against Prochazka.
Teixeira's best route to glory relies on securing a takedown but Hill should be quick enough on his feet to thwart those attempts.
The co-main event is the UFC's first-ever quadrilogy fight when flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo takes on interim champion Brandon Moreno.
Over the three previous meetings all possible outcomes have landed with their first contest ending in a draw before Moreno sealed victory in the second while Figueiredo earned revenge in the trilogy bout.
Figueredo has been inactive since that triumph due to injury but Moreno bounced back to beat Kai Kara-France, claiming the interim title in the process.
They are extremely well-matched but that period of inactivity, along with a difference in age - Figueiredo is six years the senior - suggests that the Mexican can come out on top.
