Tournament preview

Golf's leading male over-50s are in Major action for the third time in five weeks and there are some short prices about for the Senior Open at Sunningdale.

There is little surprise to see Bernhard Langer's name among them.

He defends the title he won two years ago at Royal Lytham & St Annes and will be attempting to win his fifth title at a venue where he claimed the crown in 2010 and finished second the last time the tournament was played at the Surrey track six years ago.

Former US Open champions Retief Goosen and Ernie Els provide a strong challenge from South Africa, while Jim Furyk looks set to go off at a skinny price following his three-shot US Senior Open victory a fortnight ago.

Sunningdale, at just 6,617 yards, should be an ideal test for the metronomic Pennsylvanian, but another American competitor should also challenge and could provide a bit more value.

Jerry Kelly has been in excellent form, finishing second behind Steve Stricker at the Senior Players Championship - the US Ryder Cup captain is due to play at the 3M Open this week - and was eighth at the US Senior Open.

Those performances were preceded by victory at the American Family Insurance Championship and he is ranked third in both driving accuracy and green-in-regulation on the Champions Tour.

His putting has been solid too and while he has yet to post a top-ten finish in the Senior Open, he can make a bold bid.

For those looking for a decent each-way prospect, Darren Clarke could fit the bill.

The 2011 Open champion finished in the top ten at Lytham and showed some decent form at the scene of his Claret Jug triumph last week with an opening 71 at Royal St George's.

He has twice won on the Champions Tour this season and could be a force closer to home.
