Marcus Armitage won the Porsche European Open on Monday afternoon, the 80-1 chance defeating a quartet of players by two shots to claim his maiden European Tour title.

Armitage's fellow Englishman, Matthew Southgate, emerged as his main threat, but Southgate drove into water at the 18th hole, carding a bogey six to drop into the share of second. Thomas Detry, Edoardo Molinari and Darius Van Driel completed the top five.

The European Tour event, which started on Saturday due to Covid issues and was reduced to 54 holes, completed last week's trio of tournaments. Patrick Cantlay was the 22-1 winner of the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village on Sunday night, while 250-1 outsider Yuka Saso made her Major breakthrough at the age of 19 in the US Women's Open.

Cantlay, becoming Memorial champion for the second time, beat Collin Morikawa with a par at the first hole of a playoff. The US Women's Open also went into overtime, with Saso getting the job done on the third extra hole, a birdie enough to defeat Nasa Hataoka.

Cantlay has settled as a general 25-1 chance for the US Open, which starts at Torrey Pines, California, next week.

This week's golf action comes from Sweden and South Carolina. Henrik Stenson and Annika Sorenstam are hosting the Scandinavian Mixed on the European Tour - an event featuring both men and women - while the PGA Tour stages the inaugural Palmetto Championship. Carolinian Dustin Johnson headlines the field Stateside.
