2020 Majors preview

An increasingly popular wager with punters is an accumulator on the year's four Majors, but different players must be used for each event. The related contingency rule means using, for example Rory McIlroy, twice or more in your fourfold would make the bet invalid.

This may be enough to put some punters off an investment – McIlroy and Tiger Woods both seem capable of winning more than one Major this season and destroying all accumulators – but eight of the last 11 seasons have had four different Major winners.

In the hope of another year with the success spread between a quartet, an each-way fourfold is nominated which is massive odds with every bookmaker. At Sky Bet prices, it pays 51,974-1.

Justin Thomas is the early fancy for the Masters at 20-1, with due respect shown to McIlroy and Jon Rahm. Thomas has been slowly but surely getting to grips with Augusta, with form figures of 39-22-17-12, performing superbly from tee to green. His power and accurate approaches are made for the assignment and if he finally arrives there with a hot putter in April, a Green Jacket could follow.

The US PGA is at Harding Park, where McIlroy won the WGC-Match Play in 2015, and 10-1 about the FedEx Cup champion bolstering his magnificent US PGA record looks a bargain. He is targeting a third US PGA title in May, with Woods, winner of the 2005 WGC-Am Ex at Harding Park, looking the main danger.

Dustin Johnson has an excellent record in New York and should take a shine to Winged Foot for the US Open, but slight preference at 16-1 with Betway and 14-1 with Sky Bet is for Woods, who will be determined to avenge his 2006 missed cut there. In the wake of his father's death and after two months off, Woods lacked sharpness and carded a pair of 76s, but there is every reason to expect the ultimate redemption in June. His driving accuracy stats have been amazing since his latest knee surgery and the grind of Winged Foot is made for the modern Tiger.

If ambitious acca punters are still in the hunt for the final leg, trust 14-1 Johnson to bring home the booty by winning the Open. He is far too good to be stuck on just one Major victory for much longer and Royal St George's, where he finished second to Darren Clarke in the 2011 Open, could easily be the venue where he doubles his tally.
