Andrea Pavan caused a mighty upset at the BMW International Open when the 100-1 shot beat Matt Fitzpatrick in a playoff to be crowned champion at the Golfclub Munchen Eichenried in Germany.

It was a second European Tour success for Pavan, who was also triumphant in last year's Czech Masters, and came courtesy of a strong finish from the 30-year-old Italian as he ended the final round six under par before overcoming Fitzpatrick at the second extra hole.

Fitzpatrick, the pre-tournament joint-second favourite at 14-1, traded at long odds-on in-play coming up the stretch but he bogeyed the 17th and left his eagle putt short on the 18th in his bid to win a sixth European title.

Ante-post 11-1 market leader Matt Wallace was unable to successfully defend his crown as he finished in a seven-way tie for third spot.

Home favourite Martin Kaymer, winless since the 2014 US Open, topped the leaderboard after the second round but struggled on Saturday and finished outside of the each-way places to the dismay of those who had backed him at 16-1.

Kaymer still performed better than his former Ryder Cup teammate Sergio Garcia with the Spaniard disappointing his followers as he missed the cut despite starting at just 14-1.

Across the pond, Chez Reavie was the 66-1 winner of the Travelers Championship. Reavie took a six-shot lead into the final round and won by four.

Ante-post Travelers favourite Brooks Koepka finished tied for 57th place, 17 shots behind Reavie.
