Lewis Hamilton stayed on top in second practice for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix at the brand new Jeddah Corniche circuit last night.

The seven-time world champion is a strong favourite to take pole position and to win the race, which would see his epic title battle with Max Verstappen continue to the final round of the season in Abu Dhabi next week.

Verstappen was third in the session behind Hamilton and his Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas. But while the gap between the championship protagonists was only 0.2 seconds, Hamilton's car will be fitted with a more powerful engine for the remainder of the weekend.

Friday evening's practice was brought to a premature end after a heavy crash for Ferrari's Charles Leclerc. The Monegasque driver was unhurt in the incident and was positive about his team's pace.

Ferrari are not one of the four teams to have won a race this season, but they can seal the lucrative third place in the constructors' championship this weekend by outperforming chief rivals McLaren.

A string of consistent performances from Leclerc and Carlos Sainz has seen the Scuderia amass heaps of points recently, and both pilots could leapfrog McLaren's Lando Norris in the drivers' standings this weekend.

Sainz has been a solid performer in both races and qualifying now that he has settled in at Ferrari, and the Spaniard is a decent bet to outqualify his former teammate and great friend Norris this evening.
