Weekend preview

Falkirk have stepped it up recently and they can continue their winning ways by conquering Clyde in Cumbernauld.

The Bairns have taken huge strides forward since they appointed David McCracken and Lee Miller as joint-managers.

They haven’t lost since November and have won five out of their last six in the league.

Falkirk will have to make do without suspended top-scorer Declan McManus at Broadwood, but they have plenty of attacking options to replace him, including player-manager Miller if needed.

They usually score plenty of goals and have tightened up at the back. They will have revenge on their mind having lost on their last visit to face Clyde in August.

Danny Lennon’s side, on the other hand, have taken a serious downturn recently. They are on a run of five defeats in a row and haven’t scored in four of them – although one can be discounted because it was against Celtic in the William Hill Scottish Cup.

Falkirk can continue their quest for the Ladbrokes League One title with a win.

Their league rivals Raith Rovers can win on their travels at Dumbarton.

John McGlynn’s side were a long way from their best last week as they edged out Clyde in a hard-fought win thanks to experienced hitman Steven MacLean’s first goal for the club.

But that seems to be a hallmark of the hardworking Fifers – they keep doing enough to win and stay ahead of Falkirk at the top.

They proved their credentials in a Challenge Cup success at Ladbrokes Championship side Partick Thistle the previous week.

Dumbarton ended a horror run with a midweek victory over Clyde again, but that was their first win since December.

Morton have turned the corner and can prevail against at freefalling Queen of the South.

It has been a difficult season for David Hopkin’s men, but they seem to be getting it right now and have even emerged as Ladbrokes Championship playoff dark horses.

They improved on a run of four draws with an impressive midweek success at Ayr United and have won three of their last four away league games, drawing the other one at runaway leaders Dundee United.

Queen of the South are somehow around the evens mark despite picking up just one point from a possible 18.
