Scottish Premiership preview

There’s plenty of Christmas Eve action in the Scottish Premiership and there looks to be a cracking bet.

David Martindale deserves credit for steering Livingston into the top-half of the SPL table, but it’s plain to see that Livi may struggle to hold on to that position.

The West Lothian outfit have lost just two of their last seven Scottish top-flight matches, but Martindale’s men have been more than a little fortunate this season. Livingston have had less of the ball in all of their last six Scottish Premiership fixtures, and while their direct style can be effective, they appear to be punching above their weight.

Livi had just 23 per cent possession when losing 2-1 at Celtic last time out, they managed only 27 per cent of the ball when drawing 1-1 with Hearts prior to that Parkhead contest, and they somehow got the better of Aberdeen at Almondvale despite allowing 19 shots on their goal.

Those numbers suggest that Livingston’s impressive run of results may not be as sustainable as the prices suggest and Hibernian look good value to take three points at Easter Road.

Hibs have been hit hard by injuries this season and losing Martin Boyle for the rest of the campaign is a blow. However, the World Cup break was a chance for Lee Johnson to get players back and the Hibees returned to action with a creditable 3-2 defeat to Rangers at Ibrox.

Hibs have won just one of their last eight Scottish Premiership matches but they can pick up three much-needed points at home to Livingston.

Elsewhere, Celtic are 1-8 to beat St Johnstone and continue their march to the SPL title, while Aberdeen are 8-5 to bounce back from two late defeats and claim a victory at St Mirren.
