Big-spending Wrexham were slow into their stride at the start of the National League season but they have punched their weight more recently, taking 16 points from six games, and can win a key promotion battle at home to Halifax.

Investment by actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney funded a Wrexham recruitment drive which significantly upgraded the squad.

It took a while for the squad to settle but Wrexham's performances improved and their headline signing Paul Mullin - last season's League Two top scorer - has bagged 15 goals.

However, Wrexham are fourth with less than two months of the season left and third-placed Halifax are one of the teams they hope to catch.

Halifax are on a five-game winning sequence but they haven't won away to any of the top nine teams and could fall short in north Wales.
